Small Claims Arbitrator Volunteers

With the consent of the parties, a volunteer Arbitrator hears and decides everyday New Yorkers' Small Claims disputes. Cases are interesting and fun.

Attorneys interested must be admitted to the bar at least five years* and complete training consisting of a two-hour class (in which you earn 2 free CLE credits), plus one or two evenings observing an experienced arbitrator. Once you have completed the training, you will be sworn in and may choose where and how often you would like to sit throughout the year. Join the over 2300 Small Claims Arbitrators in New York City who preside over 95% of the cases heard in the Small Claims court.

In addition, the Association of Small Claims Arbitrators bar offers approximately four additional CLE classes throughout each year to its members who are current with their annual $50.00 membership fee. Past topics have included Bailments and License to Park, Tariffs and the Montreal Protocol, Creative Legal Writing, and Ethics classes.
